Overview

PauseWise helps users create phone guardrails during vulnerable hours. The app is designed so protection rules, selected protected apps, block counts, and guided reflection history are stored on the user's device unless the user chooses to use store billing or the app is configured with analytics services.

Information Stored On Device

PauseWise stores the following on the user's device:

  • Onboarding mission text selected in the app
  • Protected app, category, or website selections
  • Guard rule labels, schedules, always-on setting, strict-mode setting, and enabled state
  • Local block counts, success counts, false-positive counts, and recent pending block state
  • Reset Button usage count and the latest generated offline reflection
  • Paywall view counts and local experiment state

This data is used to provide app blocking, show local progress, restore rules after app restart, and keep the product experience consistent.

Information Sent To Services

When live service keys are configured, PauseWise uses:

  • Firebase Analytics for basic product events such as onboarding completion, paywall presentation, purchase attempts, restore attempts, Reset Button use, and better-choice logging.
  • Firebase Remote Config for paywall copy and experiment configuration.
  • RevenueCat and the app stores for subscription products, purchase attempts, purchase status, and restore purchases.

Current first-party analytics events do not send the names or package identifiers of protected apps. They send counts and product state such as selected app count, premium status, paywall source, paywall variant, and Reset Button urge category.

RevenueCat and app stores may process purchase identifiers, entitlement state, subscription status, product identifiers, transaction information, and device/app identifiers needed to operate subscriptions.

Information PauseWise Does Not Collect

PauseWise does not intentionally collect:

  • Messages or message content
  • Passwords
  • Typed text
  • Contacts
  • Photos or screenshots
  • Precise location
  • Microphone or camera content
  • Browser page content
  • Advertising ID

On Android, PauseWise uses Accessibility only to detect when a user-selected protected app is in the foreground during an active guard window and to return the user to the PauseWise blocking screen. The app does not use Accessibility to read typed text, messages, passwords, contacts, screenshots, or page content.

On iOS, PauseWise uses Apple's Screen Time APIs, including Family Controls, Managed Settings, and Device Activity, to let users select apps/categories/web domains and apply shields during active rules.

Permissions

Android Permissions

  • Usage Access: Helps detect foreground app usage for protected apps.
  • Accessibility Service: Detects when protected apps open and triggers the blocking flow.
  • Display over other apps: Supports the blocking overlay fallback on devices that allow it.
  • Notifications: Keeps protection status and block alerts visible.
  • Foreground service: Keeps user-started protection active while rules are enabled.
  • Boot completed: Restarts protection after device reboot when the user has enabled rules.

iOS Permissions

  • Screen Time / Family Controls authorization: Allows the user to select shielded apps, categories, and web domains and lets PauseWise apply Apple's system shield.
  • Notifications: Lets PauseWise send pause-expiry reminders. These reminders help the user return to PauseWise; they are not background enforcement.

Sharing

PauseWise does not sell personal information. Data may be processed by service providers needed to operate the app, including Firebase, RevenueCat, Apple, and Google Play.

Retention And Deletion

Local app data remains on the device until the user resets app data, uninstalls the app, or uses in-app reset controls. Store purchase records are retained by the relevant app store and RevenueCat according to their operational requirements.

Children's Privacy

PauseWise is not intended for children under 13. If the product direction changes toward family or child supervision, the privacy policy, store category, permissions, and consent flows must be reviewed before launch.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify users of any material changes by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this policy.
